You’d think living in Vancouver you would be highly unlikely to feel an earthquake but that is exactly what happened at 11:49PM Pacific Time on 29th December 2015. British Columbia was hit with a 4.7 magnitude earthquake just North of Victoria on Vancouver Island.
The quake lasted a mere 10 seconds and was felt right across the mainland of Vancouver. Some residents, myself included, slept through it oblivious to the tremors while others reported feeling their whole building shake as the shockwaves rippled through the city. As a matter of safety Vancouver TransLink shut down two out of three SkyTrain lines leaving some residents needing to find alternative means home.
Earthquake Canada reported no significant damage was caused as a result of the quake but numerous people have reported cracks in their home with some static homes being shifted off their bases.
I am slightly disappointed I slept through the earthquake, it would have been a unique experience if not a little disturbing. Did you feel the quake? How did it make you feel?
